FCL Import Operator

Location: Essex
Salary: Up to £40,000 (depending on experience)

An established international freight forwarding business is looking for an experienced FCL Import Operator to join its growing Sea Freight Imports team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong operational background in Full Container Load (FCL) imports who enjoys taking ownership of shipments from origin through to final delivery. You’ll work closely with overseas offices, shipping lines, transport providers and internal departments to ensure cargo moves efficiently while delivering an excellent service to customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage FCL import shipments from origin through to final delivery in the UK
• Liaise with overseas offices and international partners
• Communicate with shipping lines regarding bookings, container availability and vessel schedules
• Coordinate customs clearance with the customs department
• Arrange final deliveries with UK transport providers
• Liaise with warehouses and third-party facilities where required
• Monitor shipments and proactively resolve operational issues
• Ensure key customer shipments are delivered in line with agreed service levels
• Work closely with internal departments, including accounts, to ensure cargo can be released without delay
• Maintain accurate shipment records and documentation, including Bills of Lading
• Support the wider import team to ensure the smooth running of the department

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

• Has previous experience within FCL import operations
• Has a good understanding of container shipping processes and import documentation
• Understands shipping line relationships, container availability and carrier performance
• Can confidently manage shipments independently while working as part of a team
• Has excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
• Has strong communication skills and a confident telephone manner
• Remains calm under pressure and can effectively resolve operational challenges
• Experience with customs procedures or import entries would be advantageous but is not essential
